New challenge

After having had interesting and fun travells together on bike and with backpack Matt and I are now going different paths in life. This summer I have another travell partner, my dog Zora. Where are we going? I don’t know, we will play it by ear. This time I have a two month break, so lets see how far I can go with a dog in the back and my stuffed panniers. 😉 More information will follow soon.

In the mean time follow my blog to get updates on my new challenge. Thank you for your support 🙂

Planned it all

Since we are biking to the festival which starts on August 8th, we planned our daily route quite carefully so we can make it in time. We made an Excel sheet with the date, km, locality, altitude, camping places and leisure activities. Most of the research on the km was made on google maps- so hopefully it is accurate enough. Also for our break days we both researched cool activities and sites to see.

We are intending on keeping to the plan but because we have quite a lot of time we can still make some changes along the way if we need to, for example if there is heavy rain or storms we might not want to ride too much.

Below you can see part of our Excel sheet. Plan

Leaving Date

As my last exam is on the 15. June, and the festival starts on the 11. August we want to leave on the 18. June, so we have plenty of time to get there. This would leave us with 54 days of travelling with break days. With 2422km  and 37 biking days we are looking at an average of 65.5km per day. Because we have camping stuff with us which adds a fair amount of weight to our bikes, this distance per day should just be right for us.

When we head off we are looking into uploading content on how we are getting on and how we are struggling. This should hopefully happen every 3-4 days.

Leaving some space

We heard that when setting off on your journey it is best to leave some space free in your bags for groceries or other items that you might pick up along the way. We will aim to leave about half a pannier free each. We thought this was a good tip and something we had not thought about beforehand.

Preparation

We have both been very busy recently and that is why we haven’t posted anything for a while. We have been spending a lot of time looking at our packing list and buying all of the necessary equipment, and now we have almost got everything we need, just a few small things missing. We decided over the weekend to pack our bikes with everything to see how it fits, we had to make some adjustments to make it all fit on perfectly and now everything fits well and we are very happy and excited to begin!
